Welcome to Lionel Samson & Son

In 1829, Lionel Samson and his brother William stepped off the Calista sailing ship on South Beach in Fremantle, Western Australia and pioneered the first family owned business.

The Samson brothers emanated from a wealthy English family who had a pioneering spirit for the new land called Australia. In 1829 Lionel purchased Fremantle town lots 27 and 28 in the first state land sale. Lionel Samson elected to start a merchant liquor and general import-export business. In 1835 he secured the first liquor license in the state, which remains current today.

Today, Lionel Samson & Son is the oldest continuing family business in Australia with a range of business interests in industrial packaging, heavy woven bulk bags, flexitanks for moving liquid in containers, wine and beer wholesale distribution, and the proud owner of a major winery; Plantagenet Wines, with vineyard operations based in Mt Barker, the Great Southern of Western Australia. Its sister companies are Sadleirs Transport and Sadleirs International, national transport and international freight forwarding companies also owned by the family.

Since the inception the Group's company values, since the inception, are based on hard work, honesty and integrity in all their business dealings, with a strong sense of serving their customers and making a fair return on investments.
